After seeing bout attendance grow from approximately 400 spectators at their launch to over 1,300 by season's end (with hundreds more having to be turned away at the door), it’s safe to say that America’s curiosity and enthusiasm about roller derby hasn’t diminished one bit. Either that, or the addition of a few modern touches – like tattoos and torn fishnets, live local bands at halftime, and enough bad-girl attitude to fuel countless cat-fights – has resurrected mainstream interest in this long-dormant sport. From its humble Texas roots, the all-girl roller derby revolution has expanded to include over 20 active leagues around the U.S., from Seattle to South Jersey, with newly-minted derby divas entering the picture every day.
